Why Go Matte?

Shine reads as product. Matte reads as hair. That's the whole argument, and it's why the modern crop, the messy quiff and every "did he even style that?" look runs on matte formulas. Cutting the shine also makes hair look denser, because light stops bouncing off individual strands — a real advantage if your hair is on the finer side.

Strong Hold, Zero Shine

Extreme Hold Matte Pomade is the strongest thing we make. Ultra-firm hold, minimal shine, sweet rum scent, and it still washes out with water. For short to medium hair that needs serious structure and volume.

Severed Head Matte Clay Pomade holds like a heavy wax but finishes like a clay. Made with Liquid Death Mountain Water, argan oil and aloe, with an apple salsa scent. Built for thick hair that fights back.

Concrete Hold Matte Pomade is strong but pliable. Thickens and defines fine or textured hair while staying reworkable. Vanilla cola scent.

Medium Hold, Everyday Texture

Clay Matte Pomade is the buildable one. Medium, flexible hold with a light texture — add layers for more grip. Best on longer or thicker hair that needs shape without weight.

Matte Styling Paste works at any length and is the easiest of the lot to get right. Medium hold that stays pliable, with moisturising oils and a sweet rum scent.

Light Hold, Natural Finish

Grooming Cream gives fine hair structure and definition without buildup. Beeswax in a water-soluble formula, for a natural hold that never looks worked on.

Surf Texture and Definition Cream is the fragrance-free option. Light texture and hold with a fully matte finish, and it layers with almost anything else here.

Powder and Sprays: Build the Base

Matte Texture Powder is the fastest route to root volume. Weightless, non-sticky, and you can keep adding through the day as the style drops.

Clay Spray puts sprayable clay into damp or dry hair for a gritty finish with frizz control. Fragrance-free and strong on curls.

Surf Tonic Salt Spray brings out your natural wave pattern before you dry. Sea salt and magnesium salt, matte, weightless.

How to Build a Matte Style

Start with dry hair for pomades, pastes and powder — water dilutes the matte effect. Sprays are the exception and go in damp. Warm a small amount between your palms until it disappears, then work it in from the roots for volume before shaping the ends for texture. Build in thin layers rather than one scoop; too much product is the fastest way to lose the natural look you were going for.

Which One for Your Hair?

Fine hair does best with Matte Texture Powder, Grooming Cream or Clay Spray — all add body without dragging the roots down. Thick or unruly hair takes Severed Head, Extreme Hold or Clay Matte Pomade. Curls and waves go to Clay Spray or Surf Tonic for definition without frizz. Short crops want powder or paste; longer on top wants Clay Matte Pomade for room to rework the shape.

Layering is the point of a range like this. Spray on damp hair, dry, then powder at the roots and a pomade through the ends. Nothing here will crunch.
